A “THRILLER” in Atlanta!

Thank You Tim Wakefield and Mark Kotsay!  That’s all I have to say, as it was Kotsay’s RBI single in the top of the sixth inning that produced the game’s only run.  As Wakefield and the Boston Red Sox win a “thriller” in Atlanta, over the Atlanta Braves 1-0!  The victory for Wakefield improves his record to 10-3 on the season, it also means Wakefield retakes the club lead over Josh Beckett (9-3) by one victory.

With two outs and two men on Kotsay smacked a 2-2 pitch from Javier Vazquez the Braves starter into left-field scoring Kevin Youkilis, with the game’s only run from second.  The Boston hitters had a very tough day at the plate as they struggled with Vazquez who only allowed 6 hits over 7 2/3 innings of work on the afternoon.  Vazquez also struck out 8 hitters, while walking 3, en route to his 7th loss on the year.

Unfortunately for the Braves, the hit by Kotsay proved to be disasterous for them as the Sox have now taken the first two games in this three game series over them.  Making things even worse for Atlanta is that Brad Penny (6-2) who’s been brilliant all season, goes for the Red Sox in the series finale tomorrow.  For the Braves they’ll be throwing Tommy Hanson, who’s 3-0 since his call up from the minors, as they try and avoid the sweep!
