Three areas the Red Sox need to excel in to win the AL East

Nobody outside of Red Sox Nation believed that this squad was going to make any waves in 2021. Heading into the regular season many in the baseball community believed they would once again be a bust under Chaim Bloom as the team was in a rebuilding phase. Unfortunately for those that get paid to be experts, the Sox came within two games of the World Series after dominating the first half of the season.

Prior to the lockout and even after we saw the teams around the Red Sox make moves to get better than they were in 2021. While Boston also did some algebra to add and subtract pieces, they’ll need to remain focused on areas that have brought them success and failure in the recent past.

The Boston Red Sox must play good baseball in three different facets of the game in order to win the division. Their starting pitching needs to stay healthy, their bullpen needs to find its identity and be consistent, and their lineup needs to be as good as advertised. If the Red Sox win in all three of those areas, they will be tough to beat this season. It will be a battle to the end with the other great teams in the AL East.

Let’s break down the three areas together.
