Are the Boston Red Sox the Golden State Warriors of MLB?
Brian Cashman compared the Boston Red Sox to the NBA’s Golden State Warriors following the Chris Sale trade. Does the Yankees GM have a point?
New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman had some interesting comments regarding the Boston Red Sox following their acquisitions of Tyler Thornburg, Mitch Moreland, and most importantly, Chris Sale.
Cashman said that “Boston is the Golden State Warriors of baseball now. They’ve got their Durant, and Green, and Thompson, and Curry.”
First of all, I hope that this is a joke, and that Cashman is just making good fun. But if it isn’t, with all due respect Mr. Cashman, get over yourself.

The GM of the Yankees, of all teams, is trying to promote the idea that the Red Sox are a “super-team.” First of all, where is the sense in this statement? Boston acquired Sale because they traded away the No. 1 prospect in all of baseball, plus a 100+ mph pitcher in Michael Kopech, and two reliable outfielders in Luis Alexander Basabe and Victor Diaz. It’s not like Boston won a ridiculously expensive bidding war for Sale like the Warriors did with Kevin Durant this past summer.
When Cashman said this, my mouth dropped to the floor. I could not fathom how exactly a man who has worked with the Yankees for thirty years believes the Red Sox are MLB’s version of the Warriors.
The Yankees had a reputation for writing blank checks for years trying to buy themselves a championship. Now that they have seemingly changed their philosophy, Cashman has the audacity to call our team out for loading up on talent?
I’m not going to sugarcoat this one bit. I’m a Boston Red Sox fan, and I hate the New York Yankees. But I’m not sure that I have ever been more annoyed by that team in the Bronx. This was just such a hypocritical remark by Cashman.

Nonetheless, this could have just been a joke by Cashman to get under our skin. And if so, it worked – at least it got under mine.
