The Boston Red Sox made another trade today, this one acquiring Chris Sale from the White Sox for top prospects, Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech.

In the last thirteen months with Dave Dombrowski calling the shots for in Boston, he has dealt away six prospects that were inside the Red Sox Top 15. Anderson Espinoza, Mauricio Dubon, Luis Basabe, Manuel Margot, Michael Kopech and Yoan Moncada.

The Red Sox, who previously had a reputation of keeping prospects and developing them, have completely changed their philosophy over the last year and a half, dealing away most of there top prospects.

Chris Sale coming to Boston gives this team the one thing they lacked come postseason time, that third dominant starter that can go along with the one-two punch of David Price and Rick Porcello. However, they did give up the overall number one prospect in baseball in Yoan Moncada, as well as flame-thrower and potential top of the line starter, Michael Kopech.

However, this trade allows Boston to potentially have the best starting rotation in the big leagues, led by the trio of Sale, Price, and Porcello. Then guys like Eduardo Rodriguez, Drew Pomeranz, Steven Wright and Clay Buchholz can battle it out for the No. 4 and 5 spots. Also, Dombrowski did this deal without trading away one piece of his current Major League roster.

I also believe this deal could potentially sway a guy like Edwin Encarnacion to sign with Boston. I know there are no reports out there saying where he is leaning towards, but a guy like this could put the team over the top and who wouldn’t want to try and put this team over the top?

People are going to have there opinions either way, some love trading and signing players for the ‘now’, some would rather wait and develop guys like they did with Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley and Co.

No matter how you feel about the deal, the Red Sox getting Chris Sale today made them 100x better than last year. I won’t see anyone complaining if there’s a rolling rally down on Boylston in about 11 months.
