David Ortiz moves into a tie for third place on Red Sox home run list

David Ortiz moved into a tie for third place on the Red Sox all-time home run list by belting two dingers in last night’s loss to the Twins. He’s knotted up with Jim Rice and trails only Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski. Here’s the top 10:

1. Ted Williams: 521

2. Carl Yastrzemski: 452

3. David Ortiz: 382

3. Jim Rice: 382

5. Dwight Evans: 379

6. Manny Ramirez: 274

7. Mo Vaughn: 230

8. Bobby Doerr: 223

9. Jimmie Foxx: 222

10. Rico Petrocelli: 210

That’s pretty good company. He probably has no chance at catching Williams, but there’s an outside shot he could catch Yaz if he keeps defying father time.

It’s fitting that Big Papi tied Rice in Minnesota. He’s crushed his former team throughout his Red Sox career to the tune of a .345 average with 17 home runs and 47 RBI in only 209 ABs. He’ll look to take sole possession of third place tonight, hopefully in a winning effort.
