Grinding out ABs key to Sox Offense

When defining the “Red Sox Way,” the term “grinder” is used to denote that the Boston batters are patient; they grind out every AB and take a lot of pitches.

A statistical chart [interactive] provided by Peter Gammons shows that the Sox lead MLB  with

23,985 “pitches seen.”
