SOX TRADE SLEEPER…Who am I?
By Earl Nash
I am the guy the Sox need, but nobody has mentioned my name…I am a LHP pitcher, 6’ 6” LHP…
Contract Status: Four years, $30.65 million guaranteed (2014-17), $12.5 million team option (2018), $13.5 million team option (2019).
Emerging as a potential ACE is under team control at least another four years. Not to mention he has relatively inexpensive team options.
“…he’s in the first year of a club-friendly, five-year, $32.5 million contract that includes club options of $12.5 million for 2018 and $13.5 million for ’19, at which point he will be all of 30.
Now don’t get me wrong: not a flawless trade chip. Some rival scouts and executives long have identified him as a breakdown candidate, citing his throwing motion and skinny frame.
Just last season, his team removed him from their rotation in May and named him their closer because he was dealing with a tender left elbow; returned to the rotation eight days later and became an All-Star.
This season, he did not pitch between May 17 and June 2 due to posterior shoulder soreness, though he never went on the DL. He since has recovered nicely, producing a 3.10 ERA in seven starts, striking out 62 and walking only 10 in 49 1/3 innings…”
