It was probably just as well that the skies open and washed out Boston’s Friday night game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park. This will give the team a chance to regroup after two ugly losses to Baltimore. The forecast calls for sustained rain and 20-30 mph winds.
After jumping out to a 5-2 start Boston has lost two in row and dropped into a first place tie with the Orioles. On Wednesday night Joel Hanrahan let it all hang out – and not in a good way – as the Orioles scored five runs late, handing him his first blown save of the year.
Thursday Boston’s bullpen held the line save for one run after starter Alfedo Aceves pitched five decent innings and gave up two runs. Boston bats went silent as a trio of Orioles relievers blanked the Sox in support of Bird’s starter Chris Tillman, who also gave up two runs.
