It seems like these guys are starting to save their energy for the games that count at this point.

In today’s 8-3 loss to the Twins, Ryan Dempstergave up three runs in four innings (three walks and three hits to go with four strikeouts). Despite two subpar final outings, Dempster was able to end spring training with a solid 3.74 ERA. In his career he’s been pretty good at putting bad outings behind him. Hopefully he can be the durable workhorse the Sox are hoping (and paying for) him to be.

The offense looked lackluster on the day. They struck out eight times and left 12 men on base. The highlight of the day was Pedro Ciriaco‘s triple.

Lackluster performances at the end of spring training aren’t uncommon. Let’s just hope they turn up the intensity when the games start to matter.
