Highlights From Sox Loss to Bucs

For what seemed liked the twentieth meeting between the Red Sox and Pirates so far in Spring Training, the Red Sox dropped this one to Pittsburgh, 9-3.

A few observations from today’s loss:

Jackie Bradley drew two walks and struck out in three plate appearances. More and more he’s developing a reputation as a guy who will be a grinder in the lineup for years to come.

Jonny Gomes doubled and knocked in a run. Jarrod Saltalamacchia also hit a two-bagger. Jose Iglesias drew a walk.

Jon Lester pitched four innings, giving up one run striking out three while allowing five baserunners (three walks and two hits). Steven Wright gave up five runs (all earned) with three walks in two innings. Rubby De La Rosa was touched up for the first time this spring (three runs, only two earned, two strikeouts). Junichi Tazawa pitched one scoreless innings while giving up one hit.

Once again, it’s only spring training. It’s encouraging to see the good but at the same time we shouldn’t get too worked up over the good nor the bad.
