Apparently get sent down to the farm isn’t always a buzz kill. Drake Britton, the Red Sox 23-year left hander recently assigned to AA Portland during Boston’s first round of cuts, was charged early Saturday morning in Fort Myers for driving under the influence, reckless driving and property damage. Britton posted bailed later on Saturday.
According to the Boston Globe Britton was arrested by Fort Myers police who noticed he was speeding. The report states Britton drove his car over a curb and knocked down a fence, driving over it before coming to a complete stop. The report says Britton admitted to the officer he had been drinking.
The Red Sox released a statement Tuesday saying they take the arrest ‘‘very seriously, and it is being addressed.’’
