It was creepy weird that on the anniversary of Tony Conigliaro’s beaning by Jack Hamilton that Red Sox pitching prospect Brian Johnson was hit in face by a line drive at Fenway Park Saturday in the Future’s game. Johnson suffered multiple orbital fractures to his left eye but was not concussed and is reportedly resting comfortably in the hospital.

This is not the first freak injury to befall Johnson, who in 2009 as a Florida Gator was knocked unconscious and suffered a mild concussion after an errant throw by his own catcher hit him in the back of the head in an SEC tournament game against Georgia.

Johnson, 21, is one of the Boston’s most prized prospects. He was drafted 31st overall by Boston in the 2012 MLB Draft, and currently pitches for Single-A Lowell.
