Red Sox Trade Rumors: Team’s Inquiring on Josh Beckett But Nothing Close

For all those Red Sox fans that are hoping and praying the Red Sox will trade starting pitcher Josh Beckett before the end of July, there is good news and bad news.  The good news is that there has been inquiries on the right-hander, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com, but the bad news is that it’s nothing more than “kicking the tires” reports Bradford who names a major league source as the reference.

Bradford writes that “nothing is close” in terms of a deal involving Beckett, but the positives are that at least teams are calling GM Ben Cherington and asking about the Texas native.  Beckett fell to 5-9 on the season after a difficult loss in Texas on Wednesday night, to go with his 4.57 ERA.

Bradford continues on by stating another major league source said the Texas Rangers are not interested in acquiring Beckett, making any home coming reunion a pipe dream.  The Rangers are known to be looking to add a starting pitcher and surely Josh would accept a deal to go home to Texas given his 10 and 5 rights that can see him veto any trade.  But alas the Rangers have no desire to bring in the egotistical Beckett, drawing out a disappointing sigh from every Red Sox fan that wants him gone.

It’s hard to fathom which club would get serious about a deal for Beckett.  Cherington may be reluctant to let him go given his trade value is at an all-time low.  Then again, if a deal that makes even a lick of sense, Ben should jump on it and cut the cord with the former World Series MVP.

Five days remain until the deadline and as always, we’ll keep you up to date on all the Red Sox trade rumors and analysis as they happen.
