It must seem like Ground Hog Day all over again for Red Sox Nation.
Stop me, if you’ve heard this: Carl Crawford’s return to the roster will be delayed by a new injury.
You are not reading an old story: today is July 7, 2012 and, due to this new groin injury, the earliest you will be seeing Carl at Fenway is August 1, 2012.
Crawford was pulled from his minor league rehab assignment due to a “mild left groin strain.”
He will be shut down for a minimum of five days; once he is able to return to his rehab routine, it will start the Return of Carl clock back to 20 days.
Last January a surgeon removed cartilage from his left wrist. Then, the 30-year-old was diagnosed with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow in late April.
Crawford batted just .255/.289/.405 with a .694 OPS last season in the first year of a seven-year, $142 million contract.
