When the Red Sox designated both pitcher Michael Bowden and catcher Luis Exposito for assignment, they had to have known there was an above average chance that they would risk losing both players. Today that has come true, at least on one of the players when the Baltimore Orioles claimed catcher Luis Exposito off waivers from Boston, keeping the 25-year old in the AL East.
Last season saw Exposito at the AAA Pawtucket level where he posted an offensive line of .242/.298/.367 line in 359 plate appearances while throwing out 33% of stolen base attempts. He became expendable to the Red Sox when Ryan Lavarnway has shown promise behind the plate and prospect Blake Swihart currently in single A ball and ready to climb the levels.
No reports have yet been released on whether Michael Bowden has been claimed. Most experts are expecting the young pitcher to find a new home with another club and will likely land in the bullpen at the major league level.
