Bobby Jenks Arrested on DUI, Hit & Run

So you guys remember that relief pitcher the Red Sox signed after the 2010 season? The one that they paid $6 million to pitch in 19 games to the tune of a 6.32 ERA in 2011? His name’s Bobby Jenks in case you were lucky and never got a chance to see him pitch.

Apparently Jenks was arrested early Friday for DUI and hit & run related charges. The reports on this incident say that Jenks was driving a white Mercedes SUV (compliments of the Red Sox, obviously) just before midnight when a deputy saw him driving erratically, at one point crossing all three lanes of US 41 in Florida before the deputy pulled him over.

Once he was pulled over he reportedly told the officer that he had taken too many muscle relaxers which was why he was driving erratically. He then told the deputy this..

"“I’m going to be honest with you. I was just leaving Babes because I hit a car. I just had to get out of there.”"

He also reportedly went on to tell the deputy that he couldn’t perform a field sobriety test because, “I’m messed up” he said.

Jenks was given two breathalyzer tests at the jail which both came up .000 but he was unable to produce a urine sample.

The Red Sox released this response regarding the incidence with Jenks,

"We have been made aware of a situation regarding Bobby Jenks and take such matters seriously. We are gathering information and will refrain from further comment at this time"

I’m not sure what Jenks was on when this incidence occurred but if he pitches for the Red Sox in 2012 I hope he brings some for the fans in attendance.
