BSI Weekly Recap: Arbitration, Projection & much more

It’s been a busy week here at BoSox Injection and the writers here were able to capture most of the events surrounding the Olde Towne Team that we all love.  Carl Crawford made headlines more than once this past week, Bill James’ 2012 projections were discussed, arbitration cases were avoided and free-agent rumors continued to swirl.  In case you missed anything, the recap is after the jump.

Saturday 

– after the hated New York Yankees made two moves on Friday the 13th, it was discussed if the Red Sox hand would be forced into signing Roy Oswalt.

– finally Carl Crawford talked with manager Bobby Valentine for the first time this off season and Bobby was pleased with how it went.

– Earl looks back at the Red Sox previous first round draft picks and whether or not Ben Cherington will trade some or lose some.

Sunday 

the first 2012 projections are examined and up first was Carl Crawford.  According to Bill James, Crawford will have a more productive 2012 season.

Monday

– after signing catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia to a one-year deal and avoiding arbitration, we looked at his 2012 projections for the upcoming year.

– the Red Sox signed Vicente Padilla to a minor-league contract with an invite to Spring Training and it’s discussed if he’s more valuable as a starter or coming out of the bullpen. 

– despite a magazine publication that says the Yankees are better than the Red Sox, Earl looks into the comparisons and it’s surprising what he finds.

– it’s learned that in order to sign free-agent Roy Oswalt the Red Sox would have to move salary, something that would be easier said than done.

Tuesday

Jacoby Ellsbury signs a one-year deal with the Red Sox as expected, which gives us reason to look at his shocking low projections, courtesy of Bill James.

– Earl examines the Red Sox catching scenario and why they might be the best in the game. 

Wednesday

the latest poll results were calculated and Red Sox Nation feels the club doesn’t have a hope in hell to win the AL East. But his may not be a bad thing.

– After the dust settled on the arbitration eligible, David Ortiz leads a talented list of Red Sox that remain unsigned.

– Nearly three months after Theo Epstein departed for the Cubs, both sides have decided they need Bud Selig to help settle the compensation.  

– Carl Crawford is again making headlines, but his wrist surgery is a step in the wrong direction according to Rick.

Thursday

– Rumors again pick up that the Red Sox are still interested in the White Sox, Gavin Floyd.  We look at whether or not the Red Sox should pursue him. 

– Rick argues the fact that President Obama declared the St. Louis Cardinals the greatest comeback team in baseball.

– Earl dissects the Yu Darvish signing in Texas and looks at who would be the better signing, Darvish or Prince Fielder.

– Stephanie made her BSI debut with a recap of the “Ten acts of Kindness” the Red Sox have performed.

Friday

– with the news that Carl Crawford may miss Opening Day, Ryan looks at some outfield solutions.

– when David Ortiz admitted that he feels an arbitration hearing is unavoidable, we look at how the Red Sox may not have a chance to win the case. 

Rick explores the possibility of the Red Sox bringing back Johnny Damon.
