Did the Sox chances for a WS in the next decade just get WORSE? Fielder AND/OR Darvish to Texas?
By Earl Nash
"FLASH !!! FLASH !!! FLASH !!! Prince Fielder Meeting With Texas Rangers According to Report … Prince Fielder and Rangers’ GM Jon Daniels were spotted chatting in the lobby of a Dallas-area hotel today."
Already facing the prospect of Prince Fielder signing with the Texas Rangers and the “Prince of Doom” eliminating their World Series’ hopes for a decade, Red Sox fans just KNEW it would get WORSE. And, it might.
"DEBATE QUESTION: WILL TEXAS SIGN BOTH DARVISH AND FIELDER?The “yes” team:The Rangers, flush with money from their 20-year, $3 billion TV deal signed two years ago believe that the investment in both premier Free Agents will nearly guarantee AL Championships and World Series showdowns with the NL and multiply the revenues from new fans attending games or paying for cable games. The “no” team:The Rangers have no intention of signing a pitcher, who has never been in a MLB game, and wants $100 million, when they can take the savings and sign a proven MLB hitting star for 10 years for $250 million."
What if the Rangers can sign a potential ace pitcher AND a proven Top Ten hitter?
Would the Red Sox, likely facing the Rangers in an AL playoff series, ever see another World Series in this decade?
OR, since Scott Boras represents both FAs, Fielder and Darvish, SEPARATELY…what if he gets the idea to represent them SIMULTANELOUSLY and offers Texas a “package deal” for BOTH?
Note that it was Fielder, not his agent Boras, was chatting with the Texas GM.
Q: To avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest between his two clients, did Boras suggest that Fielder meet, mano-a-mano, with the Rangers’ GM?
"Here are the possible outcomes:a. Rangers fail to come to an agreement with Darvish OR Fielder.b. Rangers fail to come to an agreement with Darvish, but sign Fielder.c. Rangers fail to come to an agreement with Fielder, but sign Darvish.d. Rangers sign Darvish AND Fielder.e. Rangers or Angels go the World Series in the next 10 years."
Current line on the street in Vegas:

At least part of the answer will be known next Wednesday, 7 PM EST…
