One Man’s Garbage is Another Man’s Treasure. Oakland A’s Want Curt Young

facebooktwitterreddit

The Oakland Athletics want Red Sox pitching coach, Curt Young.  Young was the A’s pitching coach from 2004-2010, before jumping to the Red Sox for 2011.  Mind boggling if you ask me.  With all the accusations swirling around the Sox and more specifically their starting pitchers, Young has gone pretty much unscathed from this drama.  With Josh Beckett, Jon Lester and John Lackey being labeled as a clique of Frat boys who quit on their teams, you would think that Young would have spoken by now.  Where is he hiding?  Isn’t he the one responsible for this pitching staff and to ensure they are doing all of their preparations to pitch every fifth game?  Why doesn’t Young come out and confirm or deny all of these reported behaviors?  Why hasn’t Young come out and address all of this chicken and beer stuff?  Did he not know what his pitchers were doing?  You would think if anyone knew what was going on, it would be their coach.  Probably doesn’t matter what Young has to say on all of the controversy, he would probably blame it all on Terry Francona, like all of the other spineless owners and players have. It’s the easy way out.  This Is Oakland’s top choice?  If this is Money ball, they can keep it.

How could Curt Young allow his pitching staff to go 7-20, have the highest ERA and starters that couldn’t pitch past the fourth inning in September?  This is Oakland’s answer to handle their pitching staff?  Can we get a prospect as compensation or do we have to pay them to get this man out of here?  What did he do?  Did you ever see him communicating with his pitchers during a game?  All I remember seeing is Young sitting on the bench, keeping a tab of pitches in his notebook during the games.

Has anyone been watching Texas Rangers pitching coach, Mike Maddox?  This man is in tune with his players.  They communicate almost every inning.  He is as hands on and involved as any pitching coach I have ever seen.  That is why he is considered one of the best in the business.  Isn’t this what this prima donna pitching staff needs?  It is obvious that the Red Sox pitchers did what they wanted, when they wanted.  They had no structure or accountability.  Was Young afraid of Josh Beckett and his Merry Men?  Maybe, he is better suited for a team like Oakland with young pitchers who aren’t intimidating.   Time for Beckett to be put in his place or shipped out, what ever is best for this team.

The house cleaning continues in Boston and this is one guy I don’t think you will hear too many fans complaining about his departure.  Let’s just hope the Sox find a replacement that can be half as good as Mike Maddox.

Change is good and sometimes needed; this is one change that will benefit the Sox for 2012
