Red Sox Win “A-Gon”

Adrian Gonzalezgot the biggest hit of his short lived career with Boston last night.  Gonzalez ripped a go ahead double in the top of the 11th inning to guide the Sox to a 4-2 over the AL West Division leading , Los Angeles Angels.  After a walk to J.D. Drew and a single by Dustin Pedroia, Gonzales doubled on the first pitch he saw from A’s reliever, Rich Thompson.

Jed Lowrie then added his two cents in and delivered the 4th run of the game by lifting a sacrifice fly, scoring Dustin Pedroia.  With the score now 4-2. all that was needed was for Jonathan Papelbonto come in and close the door in the bottom of the 11th.  Papelbon did just that, recording  his 4th save of the year and the Sox have another making of a winning streak going.

Gonzales had two hits last night to slowly bring his batting avg up to .286.  This is what all of us have expected from the powerful first baseman.  It finally took game 18 of the season before he delivered his first big blow.  I guess patience truly is a virtue.  Still, A-Gon left three runners on base last night, a problem this team has been struggling mightily all year.  In whole the Sox left 32 men on base last night.  It shows that they are starting to put hits together, but still not driving in the runs.

It cant be easy for Gonzalez to come from the small market place of SanDiego and come to the fishbowl of Fenway and their fanatic fans and live up to all the hype.  Hopefully, this hit last night will help him relax and let him play the way we all know he can.

The Sox have won two straight and five out of their last six games.  How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time.  You win a division title the same way, one win at a time.  The 0-6 starting to  be a distant memory, a very bad dream actually.
