The offense of the Red Sox would like to forget Tuesday ever happened. The Sox played split-squad games at 1:05pm and 7:05pm and both with a big fat 0 runs scored. The Sox scattered a whopping 8 hits over the two games, with only one player having more than one hit, David Ortiz. The Red Sox are now on a 3-game losing streak and have struggled to put up strong offensive numbers.

Most of the reason for the poor offensive performance was Roy Oswalt, Wade Davis and Andy Sonnanstine. All three pitched 4 innings against the Sox (Oswalt in game 1, Davis and Sonnanstine in game 2) and didn’t allow the Red Sox hitters to get comfortable or string together hits. The Red Sox will probably see a lot of Davis and Sonnanstine this season given their 18 match-ups with Tampa Bay in 2010.

The good news for the Sox was the continued success of Felix Doubront. He continued to put up goose-eggs yesterday in the nightcap and now has 3 appearances of 7 innings with 0 ER’s allowed on just 3 hits and 4 K’s. Doubront has impressed the Sox staff so far, especially pitching coach John Farrell who thinks Doubront is one of the top starting pitching prospects in the system. We may see him if the Sox get bit with the injury bug at some point this season.
