Tim Wakefield is staking his claim to a spot in the starting rotation to begin 2010. Wake pitched 3 strong innings today, allowing 2 hits and picking up a K against the Florida Marlins continuing his strong performance on Saturday. Scott Atchison, Joe Nelson, Ramon A. Ramirez, Fabio Castro and Fernando Cabrera continued Wake’s success and combined to finish a 9-0 shellacking. Each pitcher had 1 K and allowed a combined 7 hits.
On the offensive side of the ball, Josh Reddick went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs and an RBI. LF Jeremy Hermida, RF Ryan Kalish and SS Yamaico Navarro had 2 hits each in a balanced scoring effort. For the Marlins, SP Anibal Sanchez struggled, allowing 4 ER’s, 3 BB’s in just 2.1 innings and picking up the loss, dropping the Marlins record to 4-3.
The Red Sox play at home tomorrow at 1:05pm against AL East foe Tampa Bay Rays. In their only meeting this Spring, the Sox lost 6-4.
