After allowing a run on 2 hits in the first, Beckett settled down and set the table for an excellent night of pitching for the Red Sox. Papelbon, Okajima, Bard, Ramirez (Ramon S.), Shouse, Atchison and Nelson each pitched 1 inning and allowed a combined 2 hits in the final 7 innings. The stellar pitching allowed the Red Sox offense to tie-up the game on an RBI single by Dustin Pedroia in the 6th and then take the lead for good on a Mark Wagner RBI single in the 8th.
After seeing the Sox score 21 runs in yesterday’s double-header, today’s game was a much different story. The Sox only had 2 extra base hits, both doubles by Dusty Brown and Josh Reddick, and a total of just 6 team hits. The Sox did just enough and pulled out the 2-1 victory. Hardly an impressive offensive performance, but a win and one step closer to the Mayor’s Cup.
The 1-0 Red Sox play tomorrow at 1:05pm against Minnesota across town at Hammond Stadium.
